"Teaching Assembly Manners
and Ettiquite"
|
Elementary Teachers gather on the risers, like they are going to sing a song for an audience. Sheri Hoffman stays in the audience - but sit so everyone can see you fairly well |
|
| Michelle (music teacher): | "Okay, boys and girls, I have a special surprise for you this morning... The teachers are having a concert tonight, and we would like one last practice of our songs - before we perform for parents tonight. If I can see some audience etiquette, we'll be ready to begin..." |
| Michelle goes to the music stand, Mrs. Lockhart to the piano, and the teachers "ready themselves on the risers. | |
| Michelle: | "Our first song is called A Better Place" |
| When Michelle's arms go up in the air... | |
| Sheri (obviously squirming in her seat): | "Man, these seats are SO uncomfortable, aren't they? ... Gosh, I can hardly sit still!" |
| Mrs. T (on the risers): | "Excuse me, Mrs. Hoffman, but we're trying to put on a concert here - you don't seem to be following concert etiquette rules... don't you know your assembly manners? Boys and girls, what does Mrs. Hoffman need to do?" |
| STUDENT: | "Sit Still" REVEALED ON OVERHEAD |
| Michelle: | "Okay, let's get back to the concert... (start the song again)... |
| Sheri: | "Boy, this is a great concert isn't it, I just love this song, don't they look nice up there..." |
| Mrs. Rohret (on the risers): | "Mrs. Hoffman, I think you need another reminder of concert etiquette and assembly manners... boys and girls, who knows what she needs to do now? |
| STUDENT: | "Sit quiet" REVEALED ON OVERHEAD |
| Michelle: | "Okay, back to the song..." |
| Sheri (messing with her neighbors, giving hairdos, high fives, tapping on shoulder): | "I just love your hair.... Hey, give me a high five... Let's tap our feet to this song..." |
| Mrs. Heitzman (on the risers): | "Um, Mrs. Hoffman, you're not making good choices... would you please listen to our next reminder of concert etiquette... Boys and Girls, who can help her out?" |
| STUDENT: | "Keep your hands and feet to yourself" REVEALED ON OVERHEAD |
| Michelle: | "Let's take it from the top..." |
| Sheri (really loud): | "Hey, leave me alone... he's bothering me!!!!!" |
| Michelle: | "I just can't believe this... Mrs. Hoffman what's the problem?" |
| Sheri: | "But .... but.... but.... It's not my fault, other people are bothering me... It wasn't me" |
| Michelle: |
"Well then, obviously you need to remember another rule for concerts and assemblies... boys and girls, what does she need to do?" |
| STUDENT: | "Ignore people who are bothering you" REVEALED ON OVERHEAD |
| Michelle: | "Let's try this again..." |
| Sheri (standing and stretching): | "I really need to stretch, man, I'm getting stiff" |
| Mrs. Lockhart: | "Mrs. Hoffman, aren't you supposed to be sitting down? What are you doing? Boys and girls, what does she need to remember?" |
| STUDENT: | "Stay seated" REVEALED ON OVERHEAD |
| Michelle: | "Back to the song...." [teachers are moaning, groaning, getting frustrated...} |
| Sheri: | "hmmmm... (yawn).... lah di dah.... hum di dum...." |
| Mr. K: | "Mrs. Hoffman, there seems to be one more thing that you need to remember... Who can help her out?" |
| STUDENT: | "Listen" LIST IS COMPLETE ON THE OVERHEAD |
| Michelle: | "It seems that this list looks familiar. Hey, this is the same
list of assembly manners that Mrs. Struck and all of us came up with
last year. But they apply to us again, this year, at MPLS. We ALL
need to remember these assembly manners, and need to have audience
etiquette at concerts or whenever we're in the auditorium.
This song sounded rather familiar, while our teachers are sitting down, maybe we ALL could sing through it together, remembering our Assembly Manners!" |
