Stay Focused: Be Star Learners!

Summary

At the April 26, 2002 PLS Elementary Citizenship Assembly, Mrs. Kim Miller the PLS Elementary Resource Teacher introduced the May theme,” Stay Focused: Be Star Learners,” by giving each class a large star poster. Each class was asked to come up with learning goals they would strive to meet during this last month of the school year. As they thought of these goals they wrote them on their star poster, which was displayed in their respective classrooms. Mr. Krumbholz, the Elementary Principal checked in with each of the classes weekly and gave them a pep talk on accomplishing their goals and continuing to work towards their goals. Some weeks he had a special surprise (an extra recess, a Popsicle treat, colored his hair orange, etc.) for ALL the students as this was a community effort.

During the month of May the PLS Elementary Student Council members took turns visiting various classrooms with Mrs. Clare struck, the PLS Elementary Student Council Faculty Advisor and areas of PLS and photo documented students and teachers being “Star Learners.” The digital photographs they took were put into the following power point production and presented at the May 24, 2002 PLS Elementary Citizenship Assembly. The end of the power point contains a special goodbye to faculty members who were leaving PLS at the end of the 2001-02 school year. A recording of PLS students singing was played to accompany this power point presentation.
