Malcolm Price Laboratory School - Conflict Resolution Guidebook

Malcolm Price Laboratory School - Conflict Resolution Wheel

The May 2001 PLS Elementary Student Council developed this wheel for their project. They came up with these possible ways of resolving conflicts at school, which would be designed and distributed during the 2001-2002 school year.

The November 2001 Elementary Student Council worked with Ms. Lynn Dykstra and UNI students from the PLS Communications Center to design the PLS Conflict Resolution Wheel.

They also came up with typical school conflicts they dramatized and photographed to put into a PLS Conflict Resolution Wheel Guidebook. They also staged and photographed situations to demonstrate solutions from the PLS Conflict Resolution Wheel which were put into this guidebook. They distributed a PLS Conflict Resolution Wheel and a PLS Conflict Resolution Wheel Guidebook to all the elementary classes during December of 2002. The teacher associates had mini PLS Conflict Resolution Wheels made that they take to the playground and lunchroom and use when needed.

The students realize that no given resolution works for all conflicts. They also know the nine on the wheel are a guide and there could be other resolutions as well. These proactive strategies have been well received by the students. Using digital pictures of PLS students was of high interest to many of them and made the book very user friendly.
