 Grading in Cooperative Learning

These some options for grading students in cooperative learning situations:

  • Individual score plus bonus points based on all members reaching criterion.

90-99 10 points Mary 95 10 105
80-89 5 points Mark 90 10 100

  • Individual score plus bonus points based on lowest score.

  • Individual score plus bonus based on improvement scores. Bonus points are awarded on the basis of whether team members percentage on the current test is higher than the average percentage on all past tests.

  • Summing up member’s individual scores. If group members scored 95, 80, 90, and 90 each student gets the score of 360.

  • Averaging the members’ individual scores. If the members’ scores are 90, 95, 85, and 90, then each group member would receive 90 points.

  • Group score on a single product. All group members receive the same score that is the grade obtained on a single group product (Johnson, Johnson, Holubec, 1998).
