“Issues Involved in the Establishment and Sustainability of School Foundations”  Conference

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE CONFERENCE

The University of Northern Iowa is nationally known for its teacher education program, research, and leadership in educational innovations.  In response to recognized needs, the Institute for Educational Leadership (a Division of the College of Education), and the University of Northern Iowa, are committed to bringing educators and community leaders together to analyze and dialogue, in a working conference environment, fundamental issues related to prekindergarten through postsecondary education to formulate a knowledge base that offers policymakers refreshing, innovative ideas and new insights that will serve as a foundation for decision making.

Schools across the country are increasingly looking to school foundations--nonprofit, tax-exempt third parties--to assist in meeting the growing demands of education and support students wishing to pursue postsecondary education.

Foundations have been a part of private schools for several years and the number of public school foundations in Iowa has doubled since 1997 according to the Iowa Association of School Boards.

Schools that wish to raise private funds for education through the establishment and nurturing of school foundations face numerous challenges.  Addressing critical issues will ensure that schools enjoy long-term success that optimizes giving and provides maximum support for education.
