MultiCultural: Previewing Questions

  1. Review differing variables within ethnic groups. How could this framework be used in the classroom to increase students’ understandings of the complex nature of European culture?
  2. How could the study of other countries in a geography course incorporate strategies of multicultural education? How could lesson content and strategies promote cultural pluralism in society or intergroup harmony in the classroom?
  3. Reflect on your personal experiences of learning about another country. How did the lesson or unit help you become knowledgeable about another culture? Was there anything your teacher could have done to increase this knowledge?

  1. How could the key concepts to guide the study of ethnic and cultural groups be used in this lesson to increase students’ understandings of European cultures?
  2. Did this lesson content help to increase students’ knowledge of various cultural and ethnic groups? Did the lesson content contribute to the students’ willingness to cross ethnic and cultural boundaries to participate in and/or learn about different cultural and ethnic groups? Explain.
  3. Review the roles and responsibilities of teachers in multicultural education. Did Robinson’s teaching reflect these roles? Explain why or why not.
