Before you even start here is a list of things you must accomplish:

1. You must participate and complete the four missions of The Great Solar System Rescue. Completing the missions will:

  • introduce you to many places in the solar system
  • give you some background information about the terrestrial planets and the gas giants and their moons from a geologists perspective
  • give you some background information about the weather and atmospheric conditions of places in our solar system from a meteorologists perspective
  • give you some background information about scientific discoveries made about our solar system historically
  • give you some background information about locations, distances, rotations and orbits of places in our solar system from an astronomer's point of view

2. You must complete lesson on evaluating Internet sites in the Media Center with Mr. Tallakson.

3. You must complete the following activities (some will be done later, as we go through the project):

  • A gravity activity (data chart) to help you understand gravity and the relationship between gravity and mass
  • An astronomical units activity to help you understand distances in our solar system
  • A size of the planets activity (pg. 47 GSSR) to help you understand the size of various planets and make comparisons between their size and the size of the earth
  • A reasons for the seasons activity to help you understand why earth has seasons and make comparisons between earth and other places in the solar system
