MultiCultural: Previewing Questions

  1. What would be the advantages of collaborating with community members on a school project? How does this increase student learning?
  2. In a diverse setting, how would school-community collaboration increase awareness of ethnic and cultural groups? In a setting that is not diverse, would school-community collaboration also increase this awareness? How can teachers facilitate this awareness?
  3. Within the tenets of democracy, steps are given to enhance tolerance. How can teachers use these steps to encourage tolerance?

MultiCultural: Post-viewing Questions

  1. One of the goals of multicultural education is intercultural/interethnic/intergroup understanding in the classroom, school, and community. How did this activity promote relationships between school and community? What strategies did Pratt utilize to build these relationships?
  2. Review the four approaches to multicultural curriculum reform. Would any of these approaches be appropriate in a computer-aided drafting and design (CADD) course? Explain.
  3. Review the demographics of the school population listed in Pratt’s lesson plan. How can multicultural education be incorporated into a course such as this one with a largely White student population?
