INTERNET EXPLORER INSTRUCTIONS
Delete and reinstall Internet Explorer 5.0 for the Mac.
- Download and install Internet Explorer 5.0 for the Mac from
http://www.microsoft.com/mac
Note: You must have the Internet Explorer installer downloaded
prior to deleting the browser for reinstallation.
- Restart your computer after installation is complete.
- Next, set Memory preferences for Internet Explorer. To do this, go to
the main Internet Explorer program file and click on it once to
highlight it, but not to open the application. Selecting an alias will
not allow you to change memory settings).
- Go to: -File -get info -memory. Set the preferred size to 25.5 meg
(25,500 K) and the minimum to 25 meg (25,000 K). In order to make this
change, make sure the locked box the lower left hand corner is not
- After you have adjusted the settings, check the locked box in the
lower left hand corner, then exit the window. Note: the minimum setting
might change even after locking the settings
Un-Install Real Player 8 and Re-Install Real Player 8.
(You really should do this, as Mac DOES NOT upgrade Real every time it is
installed and you could have multiple installations of Real).
- To do this - do a search on the entire hard drive for the file g2cln.
Run this program to do a full un-install of the Real Player.
- Download and install new Real Player 8 from http://www.real.com and
select the RealPlayer Basic link. Note: If you need further instructions
for downloading Real Player, please go to the INTIME help pages at:
http://www.intime.uni.edu/support/RealPlayer/real.htm
- Restart your computer after installation is complete.
- Open Real Player 8.
- Go to: -view -preferences Click on the Connection tab.
- Make sure that the Normal and Maximum settings are set to 10 Mbps.
- Make sure that BUFFER AT LEAST is checked and make sure 30 seconds is
in the text box.
- Click OK.
- Close Real.
- Restart your computer.
Set memory preferences for Real Player 8 to 35 megs
- Go to the main Real Player program file and click on it once, to
highlight it. (Selecting an alias will not allow you to change memory
settings).
- Go to: -file -get info -memory Set the preferred size to 35.5 meg
(35,500 K) and the minimum to 35 meg (35,000 K). In order to make this
change, make sure the locked box the lower left hand corner is not
checked.
- After you have adjusted the settings, check the locked box in the
lower left hand corner, then exit the window.
Note: the minimum setting might change even after locking the
settings- this is known to happen and does not have an effect on Real
Player's performance in the browser.
Set virtual memory – IT MUST BE ON
- Make sure virtual memory is on by closing all programs.
Then go to:
-APPLE on the tool bar
-Control Panels
-Memory
- In the Virtual Memory, make sure that it is on and the virtual memory
setting is double that of the available built- in memory (physical
memory). This means that if your physical memory is 128 Meg, your
virtual will be 256 meg. Also make sure the RAM Disk is set to off.
- Restart your computer.
NETSCAPE INSTRUCTIONS:
Delete and rebuild the Netscape preferences file on the MAC.
- Make sure NETSCAPE is closed.
- Go to: -hard drive -system folder -preferences -Netscape users -user
folder Delete the Netscape preferences file.
- Open Netscape—this will re-create the preferences file.
- Quit Netscape.
- Next, set the memory preferences for Netscape. To do this, go to the
main Netscape program file and click on it once to highlight it, but do
not open the application. (Selecting an alias will not allow you to
change memory settings).
Go to:
-File
-get info
-memory
Set the preferred size to 25.5 meg (25,500 K) and the minimum to 25 meg
(25,000 K). In order to make this change, make sure the locked box the
lower left hand corner is not checked.
- After you have adjusted the settings, check the locked box in the
lower left hand corner, then exit the window. Note: the minimum setting
might change even after locking the settings.
Un-Install Real Player 8 and Re-Install Real Player 8.
(You really should do this, as Mac DOES NOT upgrade Real every time it is
