Graduate Assistant Task List For Checking Lab

One Week before the class

  1. Make sure that computers in the lab meet INTIME technical requirements. If some of the computers do not meet the requirements, report to the faculty which computers should not be used in this lab.
  2. Make sure RealPlayer 8.0 is installed in all computers in the lab.  If not, install it following the instructions on INTIME Technical Support website.
  3. If the lab is equipped with MAC computers, make sure that on the virtual memory setting is turned on and that the setting is double than that of the built-in memory (physical memory). This means that if your physical memory is 128 MB your virtual will be 256MB.
  4. Play at least three or four videos on EVERY computer in the lab.
  5. If a video and/or sound quality is not adequate or video doesn’t appear:
    1. Make sure that the Internet Connection Speed in the RealPlayer Preferences is matched with the lab’s actual Internet speed.
    2. Make sure that the Buffering option in the RealPlayer Preferences is set to At least 30 second before playing.
    3. On PC computers, make sure that Display Setting is set on High Color or True Color.
    4. Check the volume settings.  (For PC computers do not forget to check software and hardware settings, as well as the actual speaker plugs.)
  6. If the above four steps do not solve a video/sound problem, try to diagnose and solve it using the INTIME Technical Support Flow Chart and the support links provided.
  7. If you cannot solve the problem, report it to the INTIME Technical Support Group.
  8. Report to the faculty which computers are known to have problems or any changes in the lab’s status.

Day of the class (Ideal: one hour before the class)

  1. Check volume and color settings (for PC both software and hardware).
  2. For MAC computers check the virtual memory settings.
  3. Try to play at least ONE video in ANY computer.
  4. Reboot the system.
  5. Mark any computers that are known to have problems.
  6. Stay in the lab during the class as an “on-site” technical assistant (if possible).
